Chemical composition stainless steel

The following table is an extract from DIN 267 Part 11. It contains information on the chemical composition of austenitic, martensitic and ferritic steels in % by weight.

¹ sulfur may be replaced by selenium
² may contain titanium up to 5 times the weight % of C with a maximum of 0.8%
³may contain niobium (columbium) and/or tantalum up to 10 times the weight % of C with a maximum of 1.0%
⁴ may contain copper up to a maximum of 4.0%
⁵ may contain molybdenum (prerogative of the manufacturer)

Maximum values unless otherwise stated.
The selection of steel grades within a group is the prerogative of the manufacturer, unless the purchaser has specified particular steels to ISO or national standards.
Different grades of steel may be used as long as all physical and mechanical properties and the corresponding corrosion resistance of the finished product are achieved. Only when all these conditions are fulfilled may finished articles be marked in accordance with DIN 267 Part 11.
